            The Moscow State Classical Ballet is one of the leading ballet troupes in the world and has been in that positionfor more than 30 odd years. Their lead dancers have won 13 odd medals at differrent international competitions and three prizes at the Paris Academy of dance.

            The company's repertoire extends to more than 20 ballets, both classical and modern representing various styles and trends. The Moscow State Classical Ballet came into existence as the USSR State Choeographic Company in 1966, established by the USSR Ministry of Cultrue to tour the Soviet Union and foreign countries showcasing Russian classical ballet in its traditional form.



            After Vladimir Vasilyev and Natalya Kasatkina assumed the roles of art director and principal ballet master in 1977, they transformed the ballet company into the troupeit is today emerging from its earlier role as a concert company into that of a touring balet theatre
with a distinctly theatrical approach to traditional master pieces of Russian ballet and contemporary works. The Moscow State Classical Ballet has performed in over 30 countries around the world. The company has also earned laurels at important competitions and festivals worldwide.



                  ART DIRECTION 

          Natalya Kasatkina and Vladimir Vasilyev first met at the Moscow Bolshoi. Recognising their mutual talent they soon teamed up and in fact have been dancing and choreographing 
together since 1959. Their first production together presented them as innovators in the quest for new forms of choreography. Over 55 of their librettos have been staged in Russia and abroad ever since.  


          By the end of the seventies Kasatkina and Vasilyev found the need to produce more of their own work. And fortunately positionsof ballet master and art director of the Moscow State Classical Ballet became available. Their first task however, was to go about restoring heritage works such as Don Quixote, Giselle, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. Their extraordinary creative relationship has enhanced the ballet repertoire of the troupe.
